1
Cancer policy literacy for healthcare professionals
LIFEWISE will develop and pilot a practical learning module to help healthcare professionals understand how European legislation and health policies are developed, adopted and implemented.
Using cancer policy as a case study, the module will explain the roles of EU institutions and stakeholders, introduce initiatives such as Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and the EU Cancer Mission, and identify opportunities to contribute to policymaking. Participants will explore practical approaches to responding to consultations, engaging with policymakers and contributing to policy discussions.
Feedback from the pilot will guide improvements, with attention to differences in access to policy information and training across South-East Europe.
Planned outputs: a Cancer Policy Literacy Module, a pilot feedback report and recommendations for further training and policy engagement.
2
Quality of life and comorbidity management through personalised prevention
LIFEWISE will develop a policy brief on how personalised prevention can support people living with or at risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease and coexisting conditions.
The brief will examine shared prevention opportunities, quality of life and the challenges of addressing multiple health risks through services and policies organised around individual diseases. It will identify policy gaps and propose recommendations for more integrated, person-centred prevention.
A multi-stakeholder workshop will bring together patients, healthcare professionals, researchers and policymakers from the cancer and cardiovascular communities to review the findings and refine the recommendations. The work will consider socioeconomic, geographic and health-system inequalities.
Planned outputs: a policy brief, a multi-stakeholder workshop and recommendations to inform future policy engagement.
3
Predictive and participatory genomics for cancer and cardiovascular prevention
LIFEWISE will develop a policy paper on translating genomic risk information into informed decisions and accessible prevention pathways.
The work will examine the steps from risk assessment to communication, counselling, referral and access to preventive services. A focused mapping exercise in selected South-East European countries will explore workforce capacity, financing, data governance and integration into existing services.
Patient and citizen consultations will inform the paper from an early stage. A multi-stakeholder workshop will use practical scenarios to discuss uncertainty, informed participation and implementation priorities. Recommendations will distinguish near-term policy actions from areas requiring further evidence or capacity.
Planned outputs: a policy paper, consultation findings, a set of priority actions and a short written toolkit on genomic risk communication and informed participation.
4
AI Act literacy for personalised prevention
LIFEWISE will develop a practical resource to help health and prevention stakeholders understand the implications of the EU AI Act for cancer and cardiovascular prevention.
The resource will address AI literacy, risk-based approaches, human oversight, professional responsibilities, patient perspectives and the interaction between AI and health-data frameworks. It will focus on what organisations and professionals need to understand when considering AI-enabled prevention.
A multi-stakeholder workshop will identify training needs, organisational capacity gaps and priorities for responsible implementation. Particular attention will be paid to differences in digital literacy, infrastructure and access, so that AI-enabled approaches do not widen existing inequalities.
Planned outputs: an AI Act Literacy Resource for Personalised Prevention, an implementation workshop and practical policy recommendations.
